ISSF Championships Organizers Workshop in Munich

ISSF Championship Organizers met in Munich to share their experiences and to meet ISSF authorities and expert at the seventh ISSF Workshop.

The seventh ISSF Championship Organizers Workshop took place in Munich from the 6th to the 7th of November. The annual meeting, promoted by the ISSF to share its expertise with next years’ championship organizers, registered a record participation, this year.

“The seventh edition of the ISSF Workshop has been very successful. I thank you all of the participants: you are contributing to make our future look great. The future ahead of us is brilliant, the future of our sport is ensured!” Said the ISSF Secretary General Horst G. Schreiber, who had opened the meeting welcoming the participants in behalf of the ISSF President Olegario Vazquez Raña.

“The number of participants is rising year after year, and this proves that this meeting is productive. The ISSF Workshop is a good chance to share our experiences and to improve.” Said the Secretary General.

The ISSF Vice-President and Workshop Director Mr. Gary Anderson, led the meetings and drew the conclusions of the annual convention: “We are looking forward to give our athletes and our spectators the best possible championships. – Mr. Anderson said - Cooperation and teamwork within the ISSF family is improving, and we strongly encourage it.”

“We looked back at the season, and we looked forward. – Mr. Anderson continued - Organizers are doing an excellent job. We have to keep on working, carefully taking care of details to improve. I am convinced that all of you are committed to excellence. Thank you all for coming here!”

“We had the extraordinary opportunity to meet ISSF experts, and to listen from past year’s organizers. This dramatically helps us – said one of the Workshop’s participants – Small groups work, as well as extensive lessons, gave us a clear overview and helpful guidelines!”

Several topics were discussed during this year’s ISSF Workshop, attended by 2009, 2010 and 2011 ISSF championship organizers as well as by the Competition Manager of the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

The ISSF Vice-President Mr. Gary Anderson discussed on the topics of Program Planning and Championship preparation. Mr. Anderson also announced that an “ISSF Guidelines for Organizers” document will be released in the next weeks, available to all the Organizing Committees of forthcoming competitions.

The 2009 Organizers’ reports opened the meeting, followed by the comments of Juha Hirvi, the Chairman of the ISSF Athletes Committee.

The Chairman of the ISSF Technical Committee David Parish informed the participants about the review of some ISSF rules (the ISSF rulebook is available to download on issf-sports.org). 


ISSF experts and authorities delivered several tutorials during the Workshop. The preparation of a competition schedule, ISSF entry service, Jury appointment and accommodation, equipment control, ISSF result service, shooting range operations, final rounds and award ceremony organization, anti-doping as well as ISSF TV and ISSF communication channels were the topics of the lessons followed by the Organizers.


Small group working sessions were conducted, to let the organizers work shoulder and shoulder with ISSF Technical Delegates, and in order to promote a closer collaboration and a deeper understanding of the particular context of each competition.
