Shooting included in London 2012 Ticketshare prog., LOCOG confirmed

Schoolchildren will have access to Shooting tickets at the 2012 Olympic Games, in the frame of the London 2012 Tiketshare programme. LOCOG officially stated its position on the topic by addressing a message to the ISSF last Friday.

Shooting tickets will be available to a range of groups - schools, BOA/BPA and Tickets for Troops – in the frame of the London 2012 Ticketshare programme, LOCOG confirmed.

“We are aware that a recent article in the London Evening Standard’s report on shooting tickets and their availability for schoolchildren has given rise to concern from within the shooting family.  The newspaper published an article suggesting that the London 2012 Ticketshare programme would not offer shooting tickets to schoolchildren in London.

LOCOG reiterates and makes quite clear that it has no issues with children attending the Olympic and Paralympic shooting events.  This is demonstrated by the fact that we offered discounts for children attending many of the shooting sessions, and actively promoted this in our ticketing guide.”

LOCOG’s position remains;

 -       Shooting tickets are included in the Ticketshare programme

-       The Ticketshare programme includes a range of groups – schools, BOA/BPA and Tickets for Troops;

-       There are a small number of shooting tickets in the Ticketshare programme, and we plan to issue tickets where the demand is greatest;

-       Our initial consultation with schools suggests that there isn’t a great demand for shooting tickets;

-       However, if schools request shooting tickets, we will provide them, subject to availability;

Where the article was misleading was that it noted that we had excluded schools from applying for shooting tickets.  This is certainly not the case and if schools request shooting tickets, we will of course provide them, availability permitting.

We are absolutely clear that children are allowed into the shooting venue at Games time – indeed, shooting is one of our Pay Your Age sports, and we have sold tickets to children and will continue to do so dependent upon availability.” LOCOG communicated to the ISSF.
