London 2012 “A great success for shooting!” ISSF President said

XXX Olympic Games · London, GBR

The ISSF President Olegario Vazquez Raña said shooting at the London Games was a success. Check out the medal standings, and the records scored at the XXX Olympic Games.

Inspire a Generation” was the motto of the London 2012 Olympics, and it is sure that these Games will be a founding memory of a generation of athletes.

390 athletes coming from 108 countries (a record for shooting) participated in 15 Olympic Shooting events, from July the 29th to August the 6th, at the Royal Artillery Barracks shooting venues.

It has been a complete success, both in term of sport results (29 records), media (an average of 200 media every day) and public, with the venues full packed every day, for qualifications and finals.

“London 2012? The best Games ever. Great facilities, great results, and an exceptional response of the public. I have received positive feedback from shooters, coaches and IOC authorities. This is the story of a success!” The ISSF President, Mr. Olegario Vazquez Raña said.

“The 2012 Olympic Games has been a real highlight for the ISSF. The sport results have been really high, as 29 records can prove. And the outturn of public has been overwhelming. These have truly been one of the best Olympic editions ever.” The ISSF Secretary General Franz Schreiber said about the London 2012 Olympics.

Korean shooters took a big leap at the London 2012 Olympic Games taking the top position in the medal standings with three gold and two silver. Four years ago, they were sixth with one gold and one silver. China, who topped the tally at Beijing 2008 with five gold, still showed their strength in the sport, collecting seven medals in total, but were demoted to fourth in the rankings as they missed out on gold in many events.

Italian shooters where the real surprise of the XXX Olympic Games, with two Gold medals, and three Silver, placing the country in third place in the overall medal standings compared to a fifth place back in 2008.

London was a stage of success and high scores: 29 World or Olympic Records were set or equaled at the Royal Artillery Barracks, during the 2012 London Games.
