ISSF delegation visits Azerbaijan, host of 2014 World Cup Final

ISSF Secretary General Franz Schreiber was received by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, in Baku (AZE), yesterday, in occasion of the visit of an ISSF delegation to the venues of the 2014 ISSF Shotgun World Cup Final.

Together with ISSF Vice President Gary Anderson, Mr. Schreiber also met the Minister of Youth and Sport of Azerbaijan, Mr. Azad Rahimov, and the President of the National Shooting Federation, Mr. Vagif Akhundov.

 

The delegation visited Azerbaijan to review the plans and construction of new shooting venues in the country, both in the capital Baku, as well as in the city of Gabala. The ISSF delegation was represented by Secretary General Franz Schreiber, ISSF Vice President Gary Anderson, a Technical Delegate with a long and specific expertise in Rifle and Pistol ranges and Alexander Ratner, Assistant to European Shooting Confederation President Vladimir Lisin.

 

The Azerbaijan Ministry of Sports and Shooting Federation are pursuing the possibility of staging more ISSF competitions in the country, starting from the 2014 ISSF World Cup Final in Shotgun events, which has already been assigned to the country. 

 

Mr. Schreiber praised the government’s support of the development of sport in Azerbaijan and their enthusiastic preparations for forthcoming ISSF events in the country.

Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev said many different sports are rapidly developing in Azerbaijan, and stressed the importance of cooperation between the International Shooting Sport Federation and relevant structures in Azerbaijan. The Head of State also expressed confidence Azerbaijan would successfully host many high-profile international tournaments in future.
