Otryad of Mongolia wins 25m Pistol Women at Munich World Cup

ISSF World Cup Rifle / Pistol / Shotgun · Munich, GER

She beat Germany's Dorjsuren. They were both on the podium at Beijing 2008

Gundegmaa Otryad, 36, has won the 25m Pistol Women event on day 4 of the ISSF World Cup Rifle / Pistol / Shotgun in Munich, Germany. The Mongolian athlete has overtaken silver medallist Dorjsuren of Germany, 44, in the gold medal match. The final score was a sharp 8-0.

Otryad's road to the final was smooth: she moved to first place in the second competition series of the semifinal (overcoming Switzerland's Diethelm) and stayed there till the end – closing with a score of 21 (that's 3 hits of advantage on her opponent Dorjsuren).

In 2008, Otryad had won the Silver Medal (for this same event) at the Beijing Olympic Games. Even that time she had had to deal with Munkhbayar Dorjsuren, who had taken the third step of that podium.

China's Zhang Jingjing came third
.. She easily defeated (8-2) her teammate, 2-time Olympic Medallist Ying Chen, in an all-Chinese final. Zhang, 25, had won the gold medal in this discipline at the World Cup Final in Munich last year.

Heidi Diethelm Gerber – gold medallist in Fort Benning earlier this season – came really close to the fight for third place, but finally couldn't make it. She was indeed tied in fourth place with Ying Chen, but the Chinese athlete pulled it off successfully in the shoot-off (which lasted two rounds) and made it to the bronze medal match. The 45-year-old of Switzerland then took fifth place.

Sonia Franquet of Spain – in spite of performing the highest score of the fourth round in the semifinal – came sixth. India's Anisa Sayyed and France's Celine Goberville (Olympic Silver Medallist at London 2012) closed in a tie for seventh place.
