ISSF Target Sprint (during ISSF World Cup Munich) · Munich, GER

The new ISSF Target Sprint event, which combines running and air rifle shooting, took place at the ISSF Wolrd Cup in Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun events in Munich, today.

The new ISSF Target Sprint event was presented today at the 2014 ISSF World Cup in Munich, Germany.

The ISSF Target Sprint event combines air rifle shooting and running. It's held on a 400-meter circuit with one shooting station equipped with falling targets and air rifles. The competition consists in three running and two shooting sessions: the athletes starts with a running session, then stop and shoot, run again, shoot a second time, and finally sprint for the last 400 meters leading to the finish line.

Judith Wagner of Germany won the ISSF Target Spring Women final in 05:24:0, beating her German opponents Kerstin Schmidt (Silver medallist with 05:38:7) and Grit Otto (Bronze medallist with 05:48.8).

“It feels great, I like this kind of competition.” Wagner said “It's a new format, and it's quite challenging.”

“I found it very interesting” Judith continued “You've to be a fast runner as the distance is short, but at the same time you need to be an excellent shooter. At the end, the shooting part is more important to win the match, because if you spend too much time on the shooting line, you're out.”

“I would love to compete in the ISSF Target Sprint again, in the future.”

Tomas Bystricky of the Czech Republic team secured Gold in the ISSF Target Spring Men event, finishing the competition in 04:32:7, with over 5 seconds of advantage on the Silver medallist, Peter Hoffmann of Germany (04:38:1) and over 7 seconds on the Bronze medallist, Paul Boettner (04:40:2) also from Germany.

The Junior podiums were all for the home country, Germany. Anita Flack ended up in first at the ISSF Target Spring Junior Women event with 05:38:7, beating Anna Mast (Silver in 05:41:6) and Jana Landwehr (Bronze in 5:43:0). Korbinian Sautter pocketed the Junior Men Gold in 04:50:7, finishing 12.2 seconds ahead of Philipp Vogel (Silver medal in 05:03:0) and 18.2 seconds on the Bronze medallist, Marco Krippner (05:09:0).
