1st European Games in Baku: Shooting Sport wrap-up

After seven days of competitions, the 19 shooting events of the 1st European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan, are in the books, and the final medal table sees the Italian team on top of anyone else.

Valerio Luchini and Petra Zublasing are the two Italian athletes that collected their Gold medal in an individual event, while the other two came from two of the four non-Olympic team events that has been tested in Baku. Specifically, Niccolò Campriani and Petra Zublasing finished 1st in the Team Mixed 10m Air Rifle event, while Diana Bacosi and Valerio Luchini claimed the top of the podium in the Team Mixed Skeet event.

Team Italy then enhanced its four Golds with 3 Silver medals and 3 Bronze medals.

The Serbian national team followed Italy in 2nd place, incredibly notching four Gold medals out of four podiums. Andrea Arsovic in the 10m Air Rifle Women, Zorana Arunovic in the 10m Air Pistol Women and Damir Mikec twice, in the 10m Air Pistol Men and in the 50m Pistol Men, are the three athletes that collected the precious loot for their country.

Following Serbia, Germany concluded the competitions in 3rd place, nailing 3 Gold medals with Henri Junghaenel in the 50m Rifle Prone Men, Christian Reitz in the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Men and with a team made up of Monika Karsch and the same Reitz in the Mixed Team 10m Air Pistol event.

Fifteen Olympic quota places for the Rio 2016 Olympics has been awarded during the seven days of shooting sport. One per each event, obviously excluding the mixed team ones.

Russia, France and Switzerland are the only countries that has been awarded with 2 slots, while nine more countries got one: Germany, Slovakia, Spain, Belarus, Great Britain, San Marino, Sweden, Israel and Ukraine.

Two new World Records has been marked in Baku, and both of them by Italian shooters.

The first one is a new Final Word Record in the 50m Rifle 3 Positions Women event, recorded by Gold medallist Petra Zublasing with 464.7 points; while the second one has been marked during the Skeet Women qualification round by Diana Bacosi, who shuttered 74 targets out of 75.
