Finals 50m Rifle 3 Positions Women

Mischler (SUI): A fresh quota

ISSF World Cup Rifle / Pistol / Shotgun · Gabala, AZE

Jasmine Mischler won a quota place at the women's 50m Rifle 3 Positions in Gabala. Mischler says she still doesn't feel like she did. "It's too fresh."

Switzerland's Jasmine Mischler, 23, has just won an Olympic quota. At the World Cup in Gabala, she came in 7th at the women's 50m Rifle 3 Positions final (400.0 points), securing a Rio 2016 spot for her country. Poland's Sylwia Bogacka won the event's second quota.

Mischler, who has never competed in an edition of the Olympics, still can't believe it.

"I dont feel like I got a quota [yet]," says Mischler. "It's too fresh."

This was Mischler's best performance ever in a World Cup.

The improvement she's made on her previous appearances is impressive. Three months ago, Mischler had come in 105th in Munich. Three days ago, she came in 80th at the 10m Air Rifle.

Those results tell the story of how Mischler changed her discipline--she used to only shoot 10m, now she shoots 50m.

She first had her "best results" in 10m. But that built up pressure on her, who started finding it more relaxing to compete in 50m.

"50m [once] was not the thing for me," she says. "I preferred 10m before. But [in] the last years I got better and better in 50m."

In her new discipline, Mischler feels more at ease.

"I don't have the pressure like in 10m," she says. "I only shoot, and have fun. 10m was not good for me. I was too stressed. It was not good."

Today's 50m proved Mischler's words true.

"I was pretty relaxed during the whole competiton, until the last 10 shots," says Mischler, adding that she "was really relaxed and cool" for the entire final except "a little bit" in the standing position.

"I had a lot of fun. That was a cool competition."

Mischler has a simple rule to keep calm during competitions. "I shoot," says Mischler. "I only shoot. I don't think."

A bronze medalist at the 2010 Youth Olympics in Singapore and a quota-winner today in Gabala, Mischler could now start thinking of the senior Olympics in Rio.

"I don't know [if I'll be in Rio]," says Mischler. "We will see what goes on at the 10m European Championship--if there's another quota place winner from Switerzland or not. And then, maybe."

Likely, Mischler will find out next October--then, the Suisse Team will plan which competitions athletes will go to in the next year. But for now, she doesn't want to think of the Olympics.

"At the moment no," says Mischler. "It's too fresh for me."
