Rio de Janeiro gets ready for the Olympics hosting the upcoming ISSF World Cup stage

ISSF World Cup Rifle / Pistol / Shotgun · Rio de Janeiro, BRA

Starting from April 13th, the Brazilian city will host a combined ISSF World Cup stage that will distribute fifteen Gold medals, besides serving as a test event for the Olympic Shooting venues inside the Deodoro Park.

The second ISSF World Cup stage of the 2016 season is about to start in Rio de Janeiro (BRA), where the Games of the XXXI Olympiad will take place in four months.

The competition will also serve as a test event for the Olympic Shooting Centre located inside the Deodoro Park, one of the three clusters that will host the 28 Olympic sports from the 5th to the 21st of August. The range, opened in 2007, already hosted the Shooting events of the 2007 Pan-American Games, as well as an ISSF World Cup stage in Rifle/Pistol events in 2008.

661 athletes will participate in the World Cup stage, representing 88 different countries from all over the world, and piling up almost a thousand starts.

The first final of the competition is scheduled for Saturday 16th, when the 10m Air Rifle Women event will crown its Gold medallist, followed by the Trap Women and the 10m Air Pistol Men events. At least one final will take place every day, until the 50m Rifle 3 Positions Men and the Skeet Men events will close the competition on Sunday, April 24th.

The Rio test event will be the third stage of the 2016 ISSF World Cup Series, as two of them already took place in Bangkok (THA) and Nicosia (CYP), respectively in Rifle/Pistol and in Shotgun events. The World Cup will then continue in May, when, from the 19th to the 26th, another Rifle/Pistol stage is expected to take place in Munich (GER).
