Rio 2016 preview: 10m Air Rifle Women event

The 10m Air Rifle Women event will deliver the first medal of the 2016 Olympic Games today at 10:30 AM (UTC-3). Chinese shooter Yi Siling will try to defend the title she claimed in London in 2012.

An undeniable favorite country will try to secure the first Gold medal of the Games of the XXXI Olympiad in the 10m Air Rifle Women event.

 

The People’s Republic of China, indeed, will compete with the current Olympic Champion, Yi Siling, and with one of the three Chinese Gold medallist during this year’s ISSF World Cup, Du Li, who also pocketed the Olympic Gold medal in this event in Athens (GRE) in 2004.

 

Du, Yi and their teammate Du Bei claimed three of the four Gold medals up for grabs during the 2016 ISSF World Cup Series, with the only non-Chinese Gold medallist being Serbia’s Andrea Arsovic.

Arsovic is the current leader of the World Ranking in the 10m Air Rifle Women event, and she's going to participate in her second Olympic Games. In London, four years ago, she failed to reach the 10m Air Rifle Women final placing 15th.

 

Yi and Du could also become the first athlete to win multiple Gold medals in this event, while A

 

Arsovic will lead a pack of contenders who will battle for a spot among the eight finalists. A pack that also includes Austria’s Olivia Hofmann, currently ranked 7th in the world in this event, Italy’s Petra Zublasing, 12th at London 2012, and Arsovic’s teammate Ivana Andusic Maksimovic, Silver medallist at London 2012 in the 3 Positions event.

 

The final phase is scheduled at 10:30 AM (UTC-3), while the second final of the day, the 10m Air Pistol Men, will take place at 3:30 PM.
