Rio 2016 preview: 50m Rifle 3 Positions Men

XXXI Olympic Games · Rio de Janeiro, BRA

The 50m Rifle 3 Positions Men event will close the Olympic Shooting schedule of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. World Ranking number 1, USA’s Matthew Emmons, will battle with China’s Hui Zicheng and Zhu Qinan and many other valuable athletes.

The fifteenth and conclusive event of the Olympic Shooting Schedule in Rio de Janeiro will take place today, at 12:30 (UTC-3), at the Olympic Shooting Centre in Deodoro.

United States’ Matthew Emmons will be among the top favorite shooters entering the qualifications, as in this event he secured 6 total medals out of 8 finals participations in the last four years. Three of those medals, also, came during the 2016 ISSF World Cup Series, where he secured the Gold in Bangkok and Munich, and placed 2nd in Rio de Janeiro.

At the April’s test event Emmons shared the podium with the two Chinese athlete that will compete with him for the Olympic Gold: Hui Zicheng and Zhu Qinan, ranked 3rd and 5th in the world, respectively.

Along the four-year cycle, no athlete qualified for the final match of this event as much as Italy’s Niccolò Campriani and Russian Federation’s Nazar Louginets. The two shooters collected 9 finals each, with Campriani also winning 3 Gold medals and Louginets pocketing 3 total medals.

Moreover, Campriani is also the title defender of this event and he already claimed the men’s 10m Air Rifle Olympic Gold six days ago. In London, four years ago, he preceded Republic of Korea’s Kim Jonghyun, who secured the men’s 50m Rifle Prone Silver two days ago, and Emmons.

The finals of the 50m Rifle 3 Positions Men event are scheduled to take place at 12:30.

News and updates about the Olympic Shooting events will be available on the ISSF website and on the Federation’s social media profiles: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Weibo.
