ISSF World Cup Shotgun · Larnaka, CYP

The third event of the third ISSF World Cup stage of the season will see 32 athletes compete for the podium, representing 17 different countries and chasing the current World Record of 75 target hits.

The turning point of the ISSF World Cup Stage 3 in Larnaka (CYP) is the men’s Double Trap event, whose final is scheduled to take place today at 4:15 pm (UTC+3:00).

India’s Ankur Mittal will look for his third consecutive World Cup medal in this event, after finishing in 2nd place at the first World Cup stage in New Delhi (IND) and 1st at the following competition in Acapulco (MEX). The 25-year-old, along with Australia’s James Willett, is also the current holder of the World Record in the men’s Double Trap with 75 target hits.

Mittal will shoot alongside teammates Shapath Bharadwaj (15), the second youngest athlete in Larnaka, and Sangram Dahiya (27).

Italy’s Alessandro Chianese appeared in every final phase of the men’s Double Trap event during the 2016 ISSF World Cup Series, also qualifying for the final in New Delhi and Acapulco, but finishing on the podium only once: in Nicosia (CYP) in 2016.

The Italian flag will be also carried by 42-year-old Daniele Di Spigno, a two-time ISSF World Championship Gold medalist, and 27-year-old Davide Gasparini, World Cup Gold medalist in Granada (ESP) in 2013.

Among the 32 participants, who will represent 17 different NOCs, Russian Federation’s Vasily Mosin (44) is undoubtedly among the favorites for a spot in the top-6. The holder of the ISSF World Championship title, currently ranked 18th in the world, also won nine World Cup medals in this event, and will be supported by 24-year-old Artem Nekrasov and 43-year-old Vitaly Fokeev.

The home Cypriot team will be represented by 38-year-old Jovannis Savvides and veteran shooter Leontios Leontious (50), marking his 21st World Cup participation.

The final match will be streamed live on the ISSF website, on the Federation’s Livestream channel and on its official Facebook page.

News and updates about the competition will be available on www.issf-sports.org and on all the social media platforms of the ISSF: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Weibo and Youku.
