First day of Trap qualifications in the books: intermediate results

Both women’s and men’s Trap athletes competed today at the Foxlodge Shooting Range, where the ISSF World Championship Shotgun officially opened yesterday.

Three shooters nailed a perfect 50 after two rounds: Hungary’s experienced athlete Norbert Hegyi (43), Czech Republic’s Jiri Liptak (35) and Japan’s Shigetaka Oyama (36). Among them, only Liptak already claimed a World Championship medal, as he secured Bronze in Munich (GER) in 2010.

 

Twelve athletes follow with 49 target hits out of 50, including four-time World Cup Gold medalist Alberto Fernandez (34) of Spain, London 2012 Olympic Champion Giovanni Cernogoraz (34) of Croatia and four-time Olympic medalist Giovanni Pellielo (47) of Italy.

 

2016 Olympic Champion Josip Glasnovic (34) of Croatia currently holds 29th position with 47 hits.

 

An Italian shooter is also atop the Trap Men Junior intermediate ranking: Emanuele Buccolieri (20), indeed, hit 49 clays on day 1, as much as Australia’s Jack Wallace (20) and France’s Clement Francis Andre Bourgue (17), who follows in 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

 

Wallace’s teammate, 18-year-old Mitchell Iles-Crevatin took 4th place with 48, while Finland’s Teemu Antero Ruutana (18), Russian Federation’s 15-year-old Gennadii Mamkin and India’s 18-year-old Lakshay Lashay all crushed 47 targets, taking 5th, 6th and 7th place.

In the women’s Trap qualification, London 2012 Olympic Champion, Italy’s 25-year-old Jessica Rossi, claimed the top position, followed by Arianna Perilli (39) of San Marino, by her teammate Silvana Stanco (24), as they all finished with 48 hits and by Finland's 29-year-old Marika Salmi.

 

The three shooters were followed by a group of six athletes who concluded the first two rounds of qualification with 47.

 

Among them, Rio 2016 Olympic Champion, Catherine Skinner (27) of Australia, 2015 ISSF World Champion Fatima Galvez (30) of Spain, and World Cup Gold medalists Ray Bassil (29) of Lebanon, Ashley Carroll (22) of the United States and Wang Xiaojing (25) of the People’s Republic of China.

 

In the junior event, 20-year-old Veronika Vargova of Slovakia, 18-year-old Maria Lucia Palmitessa of Italy and 19-year-old Bettina Valdorf closed the first competition day with 46 hits, taking 1st, 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

 

India’s 19-year-old Soumya Gupta followed in 4th with 45, while another Italian shooter, Diana Ghilarducci (18), took 5th place also with 45 hits.

The ISSF World Championship Shotgun will deliver its first sets of medals tomorrow, as the Trap Women Junior final is scheduled at 4:00 pm (UTC+3:00), and the Trap Women final is taking place at 5:00 pm.

 

Both finals will be streamed live on the ISSF website, on the Federation’s Livestream channel, on its official Facebook page and on the Olympic Channel.
