Intermediate results after the first day of Skeet qualifications

Federico Gil and Kimberly Rhode are currently leading the men’s and women’s Skeet events at the ISSF World Championship Shotgun in Moscow (RUS). The junior and senior titles of the women event will be delivered tomorrow, after the third and decisive qualification round.

After two rounds of Skeet Men qualification, this year’s World Cup Gold medalist in Larnaka (CYP), 29-year-old Argentinian shooter Federico Gil leads the intermediate ranking with a perfect 50-out-of-50, followed by a group of eight athletes with 49.

 

Among them, Australia’s Paul Adams (25), World Cup Bronze medalist last March in Acapulco (MEX), and home favorites Anton Astakhov (30) and Alexander Zemlin (26) of the Russian Federation.

 

Italy’s 22-year-old Gabriele Rossetti, the Rio 2016 Olympic Champion, follows in 16th place with 48 hits.

 

The junior table is led by a group of five shooters with 49 clay hits: Kazakhstan’s Alexandr Mukhamediyev (19), Czech Republic’s Jaroslav Lang (19), Cyprus’ Nicolas Vasiliou (20), Ukraine’s Maksym Piven (19) and Turkey’s Kemal Madencioglu (19).

In the womens’s Skeet event, six-time Olympic medalist Kimberly Rhode of the United States of America is also the only one who nailed a perfect 50.

 

Two hits behind, a group of eight athletes follow the 38-year-old legendary shooter, including Chinese shooter Wei Meng (28) of the People’s Republic of China, Gold medalist at this year’s World Cup stage in Larnaka (CYP), and Katiuscia Spada (35) of Italy; along with Thailand’s 31-year-old Sutiya Jiewchaloemmit and Rhode’s promising teammate Dania Jo Vizzi (22).

 

The Rio 2016 Olympic Gold medalist, Italy’s Diana Bacosi (34) is currently in 15th place with 47 hits.

 

In the junior event, United States’ 17-year-old Samantha Simonton sealed the first two rounds with the score of 48 hits, temporarily taking the lead.

 

The American is followed by Slovakia’s Vanesa Hockova (17) and Italy’s 20-year-old Francesca Del Prete, who both crushed 47 targets, and by a pack of four shooters with 46, including her teammates Katharina Monika Jacob (18) and Austen Jewell Smith (16).

The ISSF World Championship Shotgun will continue tomorrow, as the Skeet Women Junior final is scheduled at 4:00 pm (UTC+3:00), and the Trap Women final is taking place at 5:00 pm.
