C21 Course for coaches marks a coming of age for the ISSF Academy

The ISSF Academy's C21 Course for international coaches was held in Bar, Montenegro between October 4th and October 12th.

The 21st edition of the ISSF Academy C Course took place in Bar, Montenegro, from the 4th to the 12th of October, and it came at a time of great growth in the work of the Academy: with 22 coaches from as far as Bhutan and Canada in the attendance, the course was busy with much interaction between the coaches and the lecturers.

The course was led by ISSF tutors Mr. Zeljko Todorovic (MNE), Mr. Kimmo Yli-Jaskari (FIN), Mr. Kevin Kilty (IRL) and Prof. Claudio Robazza (ITA), with a full programme of lectures and workshops covering the shooting techniques and sport science, that brought many of the students to report positively of their experience.

"I am delighted to have been here for this course. We all learnt so much from the lecturers and I know I can make great use of the knowledge that they have given us,” said course participant Florin Marinache (CAN). His classmate Mirela Celic (CRO) also spoke of the benefits of the course: "It is a great opportunity to meet and exchange ideas and knowledge with the other coaches."

Course tutor Dr. Kevin Kilty spoke highly of the students attending the course: "I’m constantly impressed with the quality of coaches attending our Academy courses and those on the C21 are no exception. They are passionate about our sport and of coaching. I really see the future development of our athletes is in great hands."

Prof. Claudio Robazza added: “The interest the coaches have shown during the sport science lectures shows that they are keen and ready to introduce sport science into their coaching activities. This will be of great benefit to their coaching and to our athletes.”

The work of the Academy will continue with a follow-up ISSF-IOC Training Systems Development Course, also taking place in Bar, and an A and B course to follow in Kuortane, Finland.
