Finals 10m Air Rifle Men

Yang: 17-year old new Air Rifle shooting star from China.

The youngest finalist won the match, securing his second ISSF World Cup Gold back to back. Yang shot an average higher than 10.5 points per shot, to beat Hungary's Wolrd Record setter Peter Sidi.

210.5 points it's the great score marked by China's 17-year old prodigy Yang Haoran, who won today's 10m Air Rifle Men final, the opening event of the 2013's third ISSF World Cup Stage in Rifle and Pistol events, held in Munich, Germany.

 

Today's youngest finalist, Yang, 17, had set a new Junior Wolrd Record of 628.9 points during the morning's qualification, making it to the final neck and neck to the Hungarian Champion Peter Sidi.

 

But Yang turned out to be simply unbeatable, today. The Chinese finalist scored an average higher than 10.5 points per shot, along the 20 final shots, finishing in first with more than 3 points of advantage on Sidi.

 

Yang had already finished in the spotlights at the last ISSF World Cup Stage, in Fort Benning, GA, USA, just two weeks ago. There, participating in his first world cup, he had placed in first, beating titled opponents. Like today.

 

Two medals back to back, pocketed during a world cup series, are something special. Coaches and experts are already wondering: is Yang going to be the next Chinese shooting star?

 

Peter Sidi , 34, placed in second today, bagging the Silver with 206.8 points. Sidi had beaten his own world record to enter the match, scoring 633.5 points during the qualifications. Then, he started off the final with a couple of frustrating shots, just to climb back on top in the second half of the match.

 

The Bronze medal went to the 2010 Youth Olympic Games Silver medallist, 20-year old Illia Charheika of Belarus, with 186.2 points. He had won a Silver medal on these shooting lines, at last year's ISSF World Cup Sage in Munich.

 

After shot 14, it was Finland's Juho Kurki, 21, who had to leave the round. The Finnish athlete made I tot he final match with 627.9 points, and closed his competition day with a final score of 143.7 points.

 

Alexander Schmirl, 22, from Austria closed the match in sixth, today, The young shooter had to leave the match aftet shot 12, with 123.1 points. He had participated in three ISSF World Cup Stages, last year, making it to the final twice.

 

Belarus' Yury Shcherbatsevich, 28, was the first to leave the match after the eighth final shot, when the eliminations start. The Belorussian shooter dropped out of the match with a total score of 79.2 points. His teammate, Vitali Bubnovich, 38, followed right after him. With 102.3 points, the Belarusian shooter was eliminated after the tenth shot.

 

The ISSF World Cup in Rifle and Pisotl events in Munich will continue this afternoon, with the 10m Air Rifle women finals starting at 4.45 PM, local time.
