IOC Vice-President Bach opened the ISSF General Assembly in Munich

The IOC Vice-President, and President of the German Olympic Committee Thomas Back, saluted the delegates participating in the 2010 General Assembly of the International Shooting Sport Federation in Munich.

The IOC Vice President Thomas Bach opened today’s International Shooting Sport Federation General Assembly, taking place today and tomorrow in Munich, Germany, in occasion of the 50th ISSF World Championship in all shooting events.

Mr. Bach, invited by the ISSF President Olegario Vazquz Raña to officially open the works of the ISSF General Assembly, addressed a speech the delegates of more then 100 national shooting federations coming from all over the world.

“It is with great pleasure that I welcome you here in Munich, a city with a Olympic past, and at the same time, we hope, a great Olympic future.” Said Mr. Bach, mentioning the 2018 Olympic bid.

"The International Shooting Sport Federation is always welcome here in Germany – Continued President Bach – The shooting sport is a traditional and popular sport in our country, and our German Shooting Federation has almost 1.5 millions member.” Reminded Mr. Bach, who also congratulated the ISSF Assembly for the record participation of 2600 athletes announced for the World Championship taking place at the 1972 Olympic Range of Munich from the 29th of July to the 11th of August “We are proud that this record was established in our country!” concluded Mr, Bach, saluting the Assembly.

The IOC President Jacques Rogge will officially open the 50th ISSF World Championship in all shooting events on Friday the 30th, at 3:15 PM, when he will participate in the opening ceremony held in Marienplatz, in the heart of the historical city centre of Munich, along with the Lord Mayor of the City of Munich, Mr. Ude.

The 50th ISSF World Championship stands as the first Olympic qualifier event for the London 2012 Olympic Games. 69 Quota Places will be distributed to the best finalists of the 15 Olympic Shooting events, while more than 2500 athletes will participate in 55 shooting events, including junior and non-Olympic events.

“This is going to become an ISSF’s milestone – said the ISSF President Olegario Vazquez Raña during today’s General Assembly – With a record number of almost 2600 participants, the 50th ISSF World Championship is the biggest shooting competition of the ISSF history”.
