300m Standard Rifle Men – France's Henry claimed his first Gold

50th ISSF World Championship All Events · Munich, GER

The French shooter won the 300m Standard Rifle Men event, claiming his first world title two days after equalling the 300m Rifle Prone world record of 600 points. Three shooters were disqualified.

France’s Josselin Henry won today’s 300m Standard Rifle event, becoming the new world champion in this non-Olympic event with a total score of 587 points, topping the final score of 586 points fired by Thomas Farnik four year’s ago at the 2006 World Championship in Zagreb. The French shooter, who had equalled the 300m Rifle Prone Men world record of 600 points two days ago, had never won an ISSF medal in this even, before.

Tomorrow, the 28-year old shooter from Paris will compete in the 300m Rifle Three Positions event. Second at the 2007 European Championship, and third last year in Osijek, both times with 1173 points, Josselin is considered one of the favourites to finish between the bests here in Munich.

The Silver went to Slovenia’s Robert Markoja with 585 points (198, 190, 197), while the Bronze was grabbed by the Norwegian rifle champion Vebjoerm Berg, who marked 584 points (197, 194, 193) finishing on his second 300-meter podium.

Three shooters were disqualified during today’s competition. Both Brazil’s Rocco Rosito and Martin Strempfl were stopped by the judges because of violations to the ISSF rule 7.4.2.7. Rosito had the front sight extending beyond the permitted point, while Strempfl was not complaining with the regulations regarding the depth of curve of the butt plate of his rifle. Sweden’s Andres Brolund was also disqualified, as his pistol grip was recognised to be anatomically formed, breaking the ISSF rule 7.4.2.2.
