Hungary’s Sike wins Running Target 50m mixed Men event

ISSF World Championship Running Target · Stockholm, SWE

The 50m mixed runs event is finished and the Gold medal went to Hungary’s Jozsef Sike, with 393 points. The home rooster, the Swedish shooter Emil Martinsson shot 390 pocketing silver. Krister Holmberg of Finland ended up third, after a three-way shoot-off

“It was very good. I was lucky today. When I shot there was no rain and no technical problems. My rifle was good, my ammunition okay and equipment good” Sike said after receiving the 50m Mixed Men Gold medal, at the 2012 ISSF Running Target World Championship held in Sweden in these days.

Sike had 195 points before the second shooting round. His third and fourth series turned into a winning ace. The Hungarian athlete shot 99 + 99 points, totalizing 393 points: nobody could stop him from winning at that point.

After the final shots, the winner looked relieved. ”I was very nervous in the end. The last six shots have been very hard, because I knew the score was good and I knew I maybe could win. And I was also very tired.” Sike said.

The Silver medal went to Emil Martinsson of Sweden, who shot 390 points on his home turf. “The result wasn't the best, it should have been more. But it was a nice start.” The home hero said, looking forward to the next events to come, where he will have a chance to step atop of the podium in front of his home public.

Krister Holmberg of Finland ended up with 388 points after the 40 shots, tied to other three athletes. A shoot-off was needed to decide the Bronze medal, eventually won by Holmberg who scored 20 points on his two shots. ”It is always fun to win a shoot-off, and bronze is a medal so it is okay!” He said afterwards.
