The ISSF President officially closed the first World Cup Stage of the year, commenting on the success of the new final stages and on the support received form Mr. Carlos Slim Helù, who visited the competition two days ago.

The ISSF President, Mr. Olegario Vazquez Raña, officially closed the 2013 ISSF Shotgun World Cup in Acapulco, today, giving an enthusiastic evaluation of the new ISSF rules, which were applied for the first time here in Mexico.

“I really think that the new ISSF rules are the best change ever made by the ISSF.” The President said.

The concept of the new finals is as easy as challenging. Competitors pass through qualification stages, and the six highest-ranking athletes in the Qualification advance to the Finals. Finals consist of two Stages, a semifinal and two Medal Matches. Finalists start at zero for each Finals Stage: that means the scores from the Qualification or semifinal are not carried forward. After the semifinal, the first and second place athletes advance to the Gold Medal Match; the third and fourth place athletes in the semifinal advance to the Bronze Medal Match.

“Spectators like the new format, and we have clearly seen it here in Acapulco. There is drama. There is suspense. There are emotions. Medal matches are thrilling and involving.” The ISSF President said, at the closing ceremony.

“New finals proved to be excellent, for the spectators. The medal match is an involving story, a real duel for the medals.” The ISSF Secretary General Franz Schreiber added.

The first ISSF World Cup of the year also hosted a special guest of honour, Mr. Carlos Slim Helù, a Mexican business magnate, investor and philanthropist, as well as a sport enthusiast who just acquired the TV rights to broadcast the Sochi 2014 and Rio 2016 Olympics in Latin American markets outside Brazil through his company América Móvil.

Mr. Slim Helù received the ISSF Medal of Honour form the hands of the ISSF President, Mr. Olegario Vazquez Raña, for his support and in recognition of the passion he devoted to shooting sport.

“Mr. Slim Hulè has been following the event, and came to the range to watch the Double Trap match. – President Vazquez Raña said - He told me he likes the new rules very much, and he will probably involve himself more and more with the shooting sport, in the months to come.”

The ISSF World Cup Series will now move to Changwon, Korea, where the next ISSF World Cup Stage in Rifle and Pistol events is scheduled to take place from the 2nd through the 10th of April.
