Spotlight on Youth | Louginets: Fun with the family

ISSF World Cup Rifle / Pistol / Shotgun · Munich, GER

Nazar Louginets started from his family. And he continued there

If you are a mother and your son wins a World Cup gold setting 2 records, of course you will be happy. But as it turns out, Nazar Louginets' father is also his coach. “I was born in a shooting family,” says the 25-year-old of Russia. “My father and my brother used to shoot as well.”

Ironically, the sport brought Louginets far from his family. “I was born in South Russia,” he says. “Now I live in Moscow. I'm not really a fan of big cities, because of my long commute to the range. But at least I get to be close to the airport!”

Which he will need pretty soon. After Munich, Nazar will be traveling to China in July. “After that I'll head back home to train,” he says. “I also have some competitions there. They'll be two hard months.”

After that, it will come to the World Championship in Granada. “That's my goal,” Louginets says. “And I feel I've got the power to get ahead.”

Other than the airport, Moscow keeps Louginets close to some big events. At the latest European Championship (last February and March), he didn't have to go too far to reach the shooting range in the Russian capital. “That was a really nice organization,” he says. “Many people did a great job to prepare it.” The bronze he got away with probably helped brighten his memories of the competition.

Louginets has a pretty straightforward relationship with shooting. “When I'm on the range, I just want to have fun,” he says. “It's good for me. It makes me feel good. And that's all. I don't really know how to explain it.” His (shooting) family, though, would definitely understand.
