ISSF President and Secretary General met Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev in Baku

ISSF authorities met Azerbaijan's head of state in occasion of the last ISSF World Cup Stage of the year, bringing together more than 1100 athletes in Gabala.

The ISSF President Olegario Vazquez Raña and the ISSF Secretary General Franz Schreiber met the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in Baku on the 6th of August, in occasion of the ISSF World Cup in Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun events held in Gabala, Azerbaijan, in these days.

 

Mr. Olegario Vazquez Raña expressed his congratulations for the success of the first European Games in Baku, saying the Games were excellently organized. The ISSF President also said he was deeply impressed by rapid development processes in Azerbaijan and the friendly attitude of the country’s people.

 

“We are happy to be back here in Azerbaijan, where the last ISSF World Cup Stage of the year will be conducted between the 7th and the 15th of August,” Mr. Olegario Vazquez Raña added. “The competition is organized to the highest international standards in Gabala, bringing together more than 1100 athletes from 90 countries. We want to thank the people's of Azerbaijan for their support, the Azerbaijan's Shooting Federation and the Organizing Committee for their excellent work.”

 

The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev underlined that state-of-the-art infrastructure was created in the capital and regions of the country for hosting various international events, including world-class sports competitions. The head of state also stressed the importance of holding an high-profile sport event such as the ISSF World Cup in the country.

 

Both ISSF and Azerbaijan authorities also expressed satisfaction with successful development of cooperation between the International Shooting Sport Federation and relevant bodies in Azerbaijan.

 

The ISSF Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun World Cup is held at the Shooting Club of Gabala, where more than 1100 athletes coming from 90 countries are competing in 15 shooting events from the 7th through the 15th of August. 34 Rio 2016 Olympic Quota places are up for grabs, and the event also represent the last chance to secure qualification points for this year's ISSF World Cup Finals.

 

The first medals of the competitions will be assigned today, August 8th, at the Skeet Women final starting at 18.45 (GMT+5). Watch the match live on www.issf-sports.org
