Asia Olympic Qualifying Competition is about to start in New Delhi

The competition, taking place from January 25th to February 3rd, will distribute 35 Olympic quota places for Rio 2016 in the three Shooting disciplines. More than 500 athletes are expected to take part.

The Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi (IND) is about to host the first ISSF competition of the 2016 season, as the Asia Olympic Qualifying Competition will start on January 25th.

 

538 athletes will participate, representing 30 countries and piling up 749 starts in the fifteen Olympic Shooting events of the Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun disciplines. 35 quota places for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games will be distributed, after 309 of them have already been assigned in previous competitions: 64 at the 2014 ISSF World Championship in Granada (ESP), 10 at the 2015 ISSF Shotgun World Championship in Lonato (ITA), 136 during the 2015 ISSF World Cup Series and 99 through various continental competitions.

 

The first three finals are scheduled for Wednesday, January 27th, when the 50m Rifle Prone Men event will assign its medals and quotas at 12:00 PM (UTC+5:30). The 10m Air Pistol Women will follow at 1:30 PM, while the Trap Women final will seal the first day of competitions at 3:15 PM.

 

Every following day will see two events distributing its awards, the last one being Tuesday, February 2nd, when the 50m Rifle 3 Positions Men and the Skeet Men final will take place at 1:00 PM and 3:45 PM respectively.
