Final 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team

Kostevych and Omelchuk sign Ukraine's third thrilling gold

ISSF World Cup Rifle / Pistol · Munich, GER

The Ukrainian team pocketed the brightest medal in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team final, the closing event of the ISSF World Cup Stage 4 in Munich (GER). Serbia and the People’s Republic of China completed the podium in 2nd and 3rd place, respectively.

An unbelievable match sealed the fourth stage of the 2018 ISSF World Cup Series in Munich (GER), where Ukraine’s Olena Kostevych and Oleh Omelchuk secured their country’s third gold in the competition, ruling the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event at the end of a tight duel against Serbia’s Zorana Arunovic and Damir Mikec.

With only five shots left to fire in the final match, in fact, the Serbian team were sitting on a 2.4-point advantage over Kostevych and Omelchuk — who had both won gold in the two previous individual Air Pistol events.

There, the Ukrainian couple first reduced the gap to 2.2 points, then overtaking Arunovic and Mikec with a fantastic 61.9-point conclusive series, and securing the brightest medal with 481.0 points. Only 0.2 points better than their Serbian opponents, who won their second consecutive silver medal in this event and signed off with 480.8 points.

Far away from Arunovic and Mikec, the duo composed by Pu Qifeng and Xiong Yaxuan of the People’s Republic of China concluded in 3rd place, pocketing the bronze medal with 416.5 points.

Both Pu and Xiong won their second medal in this competition, as Xiong won gold in the 25m Pistol Women and Pu took bronze in the 10m Air Pistol Men, three days ago.

The two teams representing the Republic of Korea placed in the bottom two positions: Jin Jongoh and Kwak placed 4th with 376.1 points — 0.8 points behind their Chinese rivals at the time of the elimination — while Kim and Lee finished in 5th positions with the final score of 335.9 points.

The 2018 ISSF World Cup Series will continue in Siggiewi (MLT) next month, as the fifth and second-to-last stage of the series will take place at the Ta’ Kandja Shooting Complex from the 5th to the 15th of June.
