Historical victories: medals in new events were distributed at the World Cup for the first time

For the first time at the ISSF World Cup athletes competed for medals in new team events in Rifle/Pistol.

In New Delhi Rikke Maeng IBSEN, Stine NIELSEN, and Anna NIELSEN from Denmark showed the best result in the gold medal match in the Air Rifle Team Women event and brought their country's first medal in this competition. The second place was taken by the Americans Sagen MADDALENA, Mary Carolynne Tucker, and Alison Marie WEISS. Natalia KOCHANSKAYA, Aneta STANKEVICH, and Aleksandra SZUTKO from Poland climbed to the third step of the podium.

Among Men, Americans Lucas KOZENIESKI, William SHANER, and Timothy SHERRY were leading in this event ahead of Aishwari Pratap Singh TOMAR, Deepak KUMAR, and Pankaj KUMAR from India in the Gold medal match. Bronze was won by Byounggil CHOO, Jae Seung CHUNG, and Taeyun NAM from Korea.

In the Women's Air Pistol Team event the hosts of the competition Yashasvini Singh DESVAL, Sri Niveta PARAMANANTAM, and Manu BHAKER won the Gold medal match, while Yulita BOREK, Joanna Iwona VARZONOVSKAYA, and Agnieszka Korejvo from Poland won Silver.

Chaudhary SAURABH, Shahzar RIZVI, and Abhishek VERMA from India showed the best result in this event among Men. Dinh Thanh NGUYEN, Quoc Cuong TRAN, and Xuan Chuen FAN from Vietnam finished second in the medal match.

Mary Carolyn TACKER from USA, who won Silver in the Air Rifle Team Women event, shared her experience of the event: “I think having more competition is very good for the sport because it allows us to become more popular and allows us to have more competitions. Team competition brings a whole new dimension to Shooting as competing for a team is very different from competing for yourself".

The first awards were distributed today in Skeet.

The winner and medalist of the World Cups Amber HILL from Great Britain won a bitter struggle in a shoot-off where her rival was Zoya KRAVCHENKO from Kazakhstan. For Zoya this medal was the first medal in the ISSF competition. The third place was taken by Ganemat SEKHON from India who also won her debut award at the World Cup.

World Champion Jesper HANSEN from Denmark won Gold in Skeet Men. The second place was taken by the vice-champion of the 2021 ISSF Grand Prix Shotgun Saif BIN FUTAIS from the UAE. And the bronze medalist of the Olympic Games Nasser AL-ATTIA from Qatar rose to the third step of the podium.

This is the first World Cup Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun since 2019. Mary Carolyn TACKER continues: “I think this World Cup is very good organized. India is doing a great job of maintaining the COVID protocols to keep everyone safe".

This World Cup will determine the license holders for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games based on the Olympic qualification system. Day before the Quota place in 10m Air Pistol Men was won by Brazil, in 10m Air Rifle Men – by Korea. Quota places were secured by Poland in 10m Air Rifle Women and by Belarus in 10m Air Pistol Women. According to the Rules, the final distribution for these two nations will take place at the end of the 2021 European Championship on June 6th.

In Skeet Men the Quota Place goes to Argentina, in Skeet Women – to Great Britain and this Quota place will be confirmed after the European Championship as well.
