Olegario Vázquez Raña re-elected as ISSF President

49th ISSF World Shooting Championships · Zagreb, CRO

July 30th, 2006 - Olegario Vázquez Raña was re-elected as ISSF President with enthusiastic applause of the delegates of the International Shooting Sport General Assembly Zagreb 2006. Accepting his election, he began his seventh four-year term by promising to do his best for the federation, while adding that it will be up to others to judge whether that is enough.

The International Shooting Sport Federation – ISSF – has conducting the meetings of the ISSF Executive Committee, ISSF Administrative Council and ISSF General Assembly in Zagreb from 27th July until 30th July 2006. The following important decisions had been taken: The ISSF Executive Committee in its meeting had to deal with some membership matters and had unfortunately to suspend three member federations since they have not cooperated on circular letters or reminders and it is not even known if they are still in existence. It concerns the member federations of Mali, Mauritania and Somali. Further the ISSF Executive Committee had to deal with a reported misconduct of the top class shooter Daniele Di Spigno in the double trap event at the Cairo World Cup this year. In a shoot off for places 3 and 4 the shooter acted in an un-ethical way by the reckless discharge of his gun. The case was forwarded to the ISSF Ethics Committee which took the unanimous decision that Mr. Di Spigno should be disqualified from the Finals and that he should be given a written reprimand and be placed upon probation for good behavior until the end of the year 2007. Should he break this probation he will be suspended from ISSF competitions for at least one year from that date (depending upon the circumstances of the second offense). The ISSF Executive Committee had to deal with three doping cases which are still pending. The locations of the World Cups 2007 have been confirmed and the dates had been published. Further the location of the World Cup Final 2007 had been decided to be organized in Bangkok, THA in the rifle and pistol discipline and in Belgrade, SCG for the shotgun disciplines. The Jury Members for the separate Shotgun World Championships in Cyprus 2007 had been designated. Mr. Gary Anderson, USA has been designated as Technical Delegate for the 50th ISSF World Shooting Championships in Munich, GER. In the meeting of the ISSF Administrative Council the Antigua & Barbuda Rifle Association has been accepted as new member to ISSF. Since the country of Montenegro has been recognized by the UN as a separate autarky country, the shooting federations from Montenegro (MTG) and of Serbia (SCG) had been confirmed as separate members of ISSF. ISSF General Assembly In the ISSF General Assembly on 29th July 2006 the delegates received the reports of the ISSF President, ISSF Secretary General and Chairman of the ISSF Technical Committee. In his report the ISSF President stated that in a meeting between him and the ISSF Secretary General and the IOC President, Dr. Jacques Rogge confirmed that the shooting sport which had been on the Olympic program since the first Games 1896 and ever since is considered as among the core sports by the IOC and its presence in the Olympic Games 2008 in Beijing and 2012 in London and also in future Games is secured. IOC President Rogge of the IOC further confirmed the importance of the ISSF TV production and congratulated ISSF for this service to the public. ISSF President Vazquez assured the delegates that ISSF will support this project in the future. The delegates received detailed reports on the preparations of the separate Shotgun World Championships in Cyprus 2007, Olympic Games Beijing 2008 as well as a preliminary report of the 50th World Shooting Championships 2010 in Munich, GER. The delegates in a votation decided the location of the separate Shotgun World Championships 2009 and Gaj – Maribor in Slovenia was the lucky winner over Belgrade, SCG and Kerrville Texas, USA. The ISSF was very satisfied that the membership fee for the period of 2007 and 2008 were not raised and remain unchanged since 1980. The ISSF General Assembly conducted the elections of the Officers of ISSF, the members of the ISSF Administrative Council, the chairmen of all Section Committees, ISSF Honorary Members and the auditors for the next four year. In its meeting on July 30th, 2006 the new ISSF Administrative Council conducted the election of its five members to serve on the ISSF Executive Committee for the next 4 years as well as the elections of all members of section committees for the next 2 years.
