Final 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Men

China rules the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol event with gold-silver combo

52nd ISSF World Championship All Events · Changwon, KOR

They also won the Team Event with a new world record score, turning out to be unbeatable on the lines of the Changwon International Shooting Range.

The People’s Republic of China achieved a gold-silver combo at today’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Men Final at the 52nd ISSF World Championship in Changwon, Republic of Korea.

World ’s #1 Lin Junmin met the expectations, and he secured the title with 32 hits, and one hit of advantage on his teammate Zhang Jian, who begged today’s silver medal with 31 hits.

Lin was the favorite: after all, he arrived here in Changwon after winning two out of three world cup stages, this year, in Fort Benning and Munich.

The 21-year old shooter also claimed a silver medal at the Asian Games, before this championship, collecting extra points to climb the world ranking to the top.

The two Chinese teammates beat the 2016 Olympic silver medalist and 2014 Junior Wolrd Champion Jean Quiquampoix of France, who claimed today’s bronze with 24 hits.

The three medalists, as well as the fourth placed - 2010 World Champion Alexei Klimov of Russia - gained an Olympic quota place for Tokyo 2020.

Missing out on the Olympic quotas, today’s turned into a disappointing match for the home hero. South Korea’s title defender Kim Junhong, the current world record holder, closed the final round in sixth and last place, with 12 hits, behind Germany’s Oliver Geis (5th, 12 hits).

The new World Champion Lin said:

“Competing against the world record holder on his home turf didn’t make a big difference to me. I was totally concentrated on myself and I just did my best to preform well.”

“The Asian Games was a tuff competition. Luckily, I kept a good metal state after that, ad made it today.”

“Now I’m looking forward to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.”

His teammate Zhang missed the chance to grab the title as he scored two hits on his last series. After the final, he said:

“This is not my first World Championship silver metal, I can cope with that.”

“On the last series I was a bit nervous and I could not shoot a good score.”

“I have been far from international competitions for a while,” he added, as he comes back to an ISSF competition after two years of absence. “I have been constantly training at my home range to prepare this competition, and it’s great to be on the podium.”

The two Chinese teammates guided the People’s Republic of China atop of the Team event podium (Lin Junmin, Zhang Jian, Yao Zhaonan) with world record score of 1756 points. They were followed by Germany, led by the 2016 Olympic Champion Christian Reitz with his teammates Oliver Geis and Christian Freckmann - who scored 1751 points - and by the host country Republic of Korea (Kim Junhong, Song Jong Ho, Park Junwoo), third with 1745 points.
