51st ISSF World Championship All Events · Granada, ESP

The last senior final of the 51st ISSF World Championship in all Shooting events in Granada was won by the 23-year old Russian athlete Alexander Zemlin, who beat France's Olympic medallist Terras to finish atop of the podium. Azmy Mehelba achieved Egypt's best world championship result since 1959, qualifying for Rio 2016.

Alexander Zemlin of the Russian Federation (23) won the Skeet Men Gold medal, at the end of the last senior final of the 51st ISSF World Championship in all Shooting events held in Granada, Spain, from the 6th through the 19th of September.

The young Russian shooter beat the 2008 Olympic Bronze medallist Anthony Terras of France (29) by 16 to 14 hits, to claim his major title in career.

Both the medallists secured a Rio 2016 Olympic quota place for their respective countries.

On his way to the podium, Zemlin scored 122 targets during the qualifications, and then 15 targets in the semi-final, winning a semi-final shoot-off to advance to the medal match.

“My aim was to get into the final, I did not even think about the title and the quota place.” The new Skeet world champion admitted.

The 23-year old athlete had finished in the spotlights at the 2011 European Championship, when he won the European Junior title.

“Everything has changed, in these three years,” said Zemlin, “I have changed my equipment and my preparation, getting ready for this event.”

“I started shooting when I was 7-year old. My father introduced me to the sport. I had never thought I could end up atop of the worlds podium.”

“I am proud that I have won an Olympic Quota for my country. Hopefully, we will gain a second quota next year. I am not automatically qualified for the Games: we will have trials within our team, and only the bests will eventually fligh to Rio.”

Egypt's Azmy Mehelba (23) claimed the Bronze medal, beating Eric Delaunay of France (26) by 15 to 13 hits in the Bronze medal match.

Mehelba pocketed the last Olympic quota place for Rio 2016 to be awarded here in Granada, and his third place turned out to be Egypt's best result in an ISSF World Championship since 1959.

Rashid Hamad of Qatar (26) and Luigi Lodde of Italy (34) followed the medal-matches contenders, placing in fifth and sixth place with 12 hits in the semi-final.
