ISSF World Cup in Shotgun events kicked-off in Minsk

The best shotgun shooter of the world met in Minsk for the third leg of the 2009 ISSF World Cup in Shotgun events of the year.

The 2009 ISSF World Cup Stage in Shotgun events of Minsk kicked-off today, May the 6th.

The competition is held at the Sporting Club of Minsk, the set of last year’s ISSF World Cup Final in Shotgun events.

About 270 athletes coming from 36 countries will compete here in the five Olympic shotgun events from the 6th through the 14th of June.

Belarus’ Vice Minister of Sport and Turism, Dymitry SHICHKO, welcomed the participants to Minsk “It’s an honour to host an ISSF World Cup in our Country – said the Minister while speaking on the stage of the opening ceremony – I thanks the Organizing Committee, that made this possible, and the athletes, for coming here to compete. I wish all the best to you!”

The ISSF Vice President Mr. Medhat WAHDAN, Technical Delegate for this world cup stage, officially opened the competition: “In behalf of the ISSF President, Mr. Olegario Vazquez Raña, and of the ISSF Secretary General, Mr. Horst Schreiber, I declare the ISSF World Cup stage in Minsk officially opened. We have had a fantastic World Cup Final here in Minsk, last year, and we are now witnessing an excellent world cup organization; – said Mr. WAHDAN - I wish you a successful, friendly and fair competition!”

The first medals of this ISSF World Cup stage will be awarded on Sunday, May the 7th, when the Skeet Women Final will take place starting from 5.30 PM (Minsk Time, GMT+3).
