Sport is for everyone - no matter the age, gender or athletic skills – and the Olympic Day will be the time to celebrate it. Events, exhibitions, music and educational seminars: all kind of sports activities will engage four million people, who will join the Olympic ideals on the 23rd of June, or rather the 119th birth of the modern Olympic Games – an anniversary which has been honoured since 1948.
Olympic Day has considerably grown throughout the years – increasing the number of the participating National Olympic Committees (NOCs) from 9 (1948) to 204 (2013). From 1987 onwards, Olympic Day has been associated with Olympic Day Runs all over the world – considerably expanding its global outreach.
“Move, Learn and Discover” are the three pilars of Olympic Day - highly supported by NOCs, who offer several activites to boost people's interest in sports culture – featuring such events as concerts, exhibitions and meetings for children with athletes.
People can find out about organized activities in their neighbourhood taking a look at the interactive map and – if too far away from any of them – , they can still join Olympic Day just going out and doing some sports on their own. Then, they can share a picture of them in action and finally upload it to the Olympic Day contest page - by Tuesday 25 June. Doing so, they will enter a contest and could win a trip to Lausanne, Switzerland - next October - when the Olympic Museum will be inaugurated.
The International Shooting Sport Federation supports Olympic day, and fully shares the values of the Olympic Movement. Get active, get this chance: join Olympic Day and celebrate sport!
