ISSF celebrates DSB in occasion of its 150 anniversary

The German Shooting Sport Federation - DSB - was founded 150 years ago. The ISSF President Olegario Vazquez Raña met and awarded the President of the German Shooting Federation, Josef Ambacher, in occasion of the 2011 ISSF Rifle and Pistol World Cup in Munich.

The International Shooting Sport Federation celebrated the German Shooting Federation – Deutscher Schutzenbund - in the occasion of its 150th anniversary.

 

The “Deutscher Schutzenbund” was founded on 11 July 1861, and stands as the oldest sport federation in the country. Nowadays, the German Shooting Sport and Archery Federation counts 15.000 clubs and gather more than 1.4 million members from all around Germany. An impressive organization which finished in the spotlights by organizing the biggest Shooting World Championship ever last year, in Munich, where more than 2000 athletes competed on the lines of the 1972 Olympic Shooting Range trying to qualify for the London Games.

 

As the 2011 ISSF Rifle & Pistol World Cup is kicking-off in Munich, the ISSF President, Olegario Vazquez Raña, and the ISSF Secretary General Franz Schreiber, honoured the German Shooting Federation by presenting a special award to its President, Mr. Josef Ambacher, and to its Secretary General, Mr. Jorg Brokamp.

 

“We want to recognize the long history and the excellence of our host, the German Shooting Federation!” The ISSF President, Olegario Vazquez Raña said, during the Administrative Council in Munich, yesterday.

 

“The ISSF and the German Shooting Sport Federation share the values and the tradition of the shooting sport. We are very happy to honour them in their 150 anniversary.”  The ISSF Secretary General, Franz Schreiber, said at the ceremony.

 

“We are facing the challenge to modernize and to transport our sport in the new century – the President of the German Shooting Federation, Mr. Josef Ambacher said at the meeting – We come from a long tradition which must be saved, and we have a bright future to build in front of us.”

 

“150 year of activities is a great achievement, but we are not stopping our efforts. – The German Shooting Federation’s Secretary General Jorg Brokamp added - We are now in the process of launching a new Excellence centre in Wiesbaden, where our top Olympic and Paralympic shooters will find the best conditions to train.”
