European Champ Ungerank wins 10m Air Rifle Women World Cup Gold

The 20-year old Austrian shooter beat China's Jing Chang to finish on the highest step of the podium. The reigning Olympic Champion Yi Siling finished in fifth place.

The 2013 European Champion Lisa Ungerank, 20, from Austria, won today's 10m Air Rifle Women event at the 2013 ISSF Rifle and Pistol World Cup in Munich, Germany.

 

The young shooter finished in first place with a final score of 206.7 points, beating China's Jing Chang by 1 point.

 

Ungerank took foll advantage of the new rules, that zero the scores after the qualifications. She had indeed made it to the final in eighth and last place, with 416.0 points. But as the final started, she did not miss the chance to come back. Shooting consistently, Lisa climbed up to the top of the scoreboard, ending up with the Gold around her neck.

 

“I like the new rules for the 10m Air Rifle event. It worked for me, today.” She said after the final.

The Austrian shooter had never won an ISSF World Cup Gold, before. Her friends and fans followed her here in Munich, cheering out loud for her, and then singing Austria's anthem during the award ceremony.

 

“They are great – Lisa said – they are friends and team-members. They support me a lot, they make me feel confident, even if sometimes I am nervous.”

 

Jing Chang, 26, from China, won Silver with 205.7 points, as she had done in Fort Benning, two weeks ago.

 

Another young shooter, 24-year old Emilie Evesque of France, also finished on the podium, securing the Bronze medal with 185.0 points. And it was a first-try-first-win: Emilie had indeed never made it to an ISSF final round, before.

 

German spectators crowding the final hall cheered up loud for Jessica Mager, 24. Support alone was not enough to push her upon the podium, bust still today's was her best result ever here in Munich (in the frame of the ISSF World Cup Series). Mager finished in fourth place, with a final score of 164.7 points.

 

The reigning Olympic Champion, Yi Siling, 24, from China, placed in fifth, today, with 144.4 points. She was followed by Iran's Narjes Emamgholinejad Andvari, who placed in sixth with 123.8 points, and by Serbia's Aandrea Arsovic, seventh with 102.9 points. Czech Republic's first time finalist Nikola Mazurova close the match in eighth and last place, with 80.7 points.

 

The 10m Air Rifle Women finals closed the first competition day of the 2013 ISSF World Cup in Rifle and Pistol events in Munich, Germany.

 

The World Cup Stage will continue tomorrow with two more medal matches. The 50m Pistol Men final will take place at 11.15 AM, while the 25m Pistol Women final will be heòld at 1.30 PM, local time.
