The ISSF President Olegario Vazuqez Raña awarded the first Shooting Sport medals at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing (CHN), commenting on the great reactions of spectators to the new ISSF rules.

The ISSF President Olegario Vazquez Raña awarded the medals of the first 2014 Youth Olympic Games Shooting competition, the 10m Air Pistol Women match, which took place at the Fanshan venue of Nanjing (CHN) this morning.

The Gold medal went to Poland's Agata Nowac, who scored 196.9 points beating Russia's Margarita Lomova (194.4) at the last shot. Nowac fired indeed an outstanding 10.7 that outscored Lomova's 7.7, finishing on the highest step of the podium for the first time in an international competition. Bronze went to Korea's Kim Minjung (175.4 points).

“It has been a nice match, with a lot of emotions, both on the athletes and the spectators side.” The ISSF President said, right after the match.

“Thanks to the new ISSF rules, which introduced the elimination-style finals after the 2012 Olympic Games, the medal matches became breathtaking.”

“This is the new face of shooting.” Mr. Olegario Vazquez Raña claimed. “For the firs time in a major shooting competition, music was played during the match, and the reaction of the spectators has been amazing: they were all clapping and cheering out loud for the finals, and they continued right to the last series.”

“Shooting finals became an exciting show. People love it: today's reactions proved it once again.” The ISSF President concluded.

The next YOG Shooting medal match – the 10m Air Pistol Men final – will take place tomorrow, at 11.15 AM Nanjing time. Don't miss the show, stay tuned on www.issf-sports.org, on the YOG channels, and on www.olympic.tv
