The IOC will launch its Olympic Channel at the conclusion of Rio 2016

The new digital-first platform will be available anytime, anywhere and on any device on August 21st. The Channel’s official website and social media handles are already online.

On August 21st, at the conclusion of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, the International Olympic Committee will officially launch its new digital-first media platform, the Olympic Channel, where sports fan around the world will have the chance to experience the power of the Olympic Movement all year round.

Right after the Closing Ceremony of the upcoming Summer Games, a mobile app will be made available for download worldwide, both for Android and iOS users, while the online version of the channel is already browsable at olympicchannel.com.

The Olympic Channel will present original programming, live sport events, news, highlights and additional exposure for sports and athletes, also offering users the possibility to register for a richer and more personalized experience. Logged-in visitors, indeed, will have the chance to follow their favorite athletes, teams, sports and countries, also receiving tailored and selected contents.

Initially, the contents will be offered in English, but the IOC intends to develop localized versions of the Channel, which will offer language-specific user experiences on the different digital platforms, also including linear television programming options.

“The launch of the Olympic Channel on August 21st is the start of an exciting new journey to connect the worldwide audience with the Olympic Movement all year round,” said the IOC President Thomas Bach. “Fans will be able to follow sports, athletes and the stories behind the Olympic Games. The Olympic Channel will inspire us all and reach out to new generations of athletes and fans.”
