ISSF World Cup Stage 3 officially opened in Larnaka, Cyprus

Over 400 shotgun shooters from 61 countries are set to participate in the third world cup stage of the season, which was officially opened today in Larnaka, Cyprus, by ISSF Vice-President Vladimir Lisin. All final matches will be broadcasted live.

The 3rd ISSF World Cup Stage of the season kicked-off in Larnaka, Cyprus, today. After competing in New Delhi (IND) and in Acapulco (MEX), the best shotgun shooters of the world meet again at the Olympic Shooting Range of Larnaka, where they will compete in Skeet, Trap and Double Trap events from today right to the 7th of May.

 

Over 400 athletes coming from 61 countries arrived here, aiming at their last chance to gain access to the ISSF World Cup Final that will assign the ISSF Cups at the end of the season, in New Delhi, in October.

 

The opening ceremony of the event was held at the venue, today. The President of Cyprus Shooting Sport Federation and member of the ISSF Administrative Council, Mr. Demetris Lordos, welcomed the participant in the country: “It’s with great happiness and honor that I welcome you all to the last shotgun world cup stage of the season, here at the Olympic Shooting Range of Larnaka. I would like to thank the ISSF for entrusting us once again for the organization of such an important international event. The greatness of the competition is proved by the numbers it records: over 550 participants coming from 61 countries - between athletes and officials - travelled to Cyprus for this event. I would like to wish you all good luck and success!”

 

“Thank you all for being here. We are sure that the experience of the Cyprus Shooting Sport Federation will guarantee the success of this event – the President of the Cyprus Olympic Committee Mr. Dinos Michaelides said – “we wish you all a successful competition, in fair play and in line with the Olympic values.”

 

The athletes were welcomed also by the President of the Cyprus Sport Organization, Mr. Kleanthis Georgiades - who delivered a welcome message of the President of the Republic of Cyprus Mr. Nicos Anastasiades – at the presence of the Major of Larnaka Mr. Andeas Viras, of the President of the Organizing Committee Mr. Procopis Gavrileides, of the ISSF Vice-President Mr. Luciano Rossi and of the ISSF Honorary Member Medhat Wahdan.

 

The ISSF Vice-President and President of European Shooting Confederation Mr. Vladimir Lisin, speaking in behalf of the ISSF President Olegario Vazquez Raña, officially declared the competition open. “We are happy to be back here in Cyprus – Mr. Lisin said – this is a very important competition for us, to work united and move forward on the road leading to Tokyo 2020. I wish success to all participants!”

 

The first medal match, the women’s Skeet Final, will take place tomorrow afternoon (April the 30th) at 17.15 Cyprus time (UTC+3 hours). Spotlights will be on USA’s 6-time Olympic medalist Kimberly Rhode, who won the women’s skeet finals both in New Delhi and Acapulco, earlier this year.

 

On the 1st of May, the men’s Skeet Final is scheduled at 17.45 (UTC+3).

 

The world cup stage will then continue with the men’s Double Trap, and the women’s and men’s Trap events, until the 7th of May (for the full event schedule, click here: http://www.issf-sports.org/competitions/venue/schedule.ashx?cshipid=1902 )

The five final matches will be streamed live on the ISSF website, on the Federation’s Livestream channel and on its official Facebook page.
