Olga Stepanova shines in the 10m Running Target event

52nd ISSF World Championship All Events · Changwon, KOR

The Russian shooter 31-year-old secured the first world title of her career, besting the bronze she won in Granada (ESP) in 2014. The silver was awarded to People’s Republic of China’s Li Xue Yan, while Galina Avramenko placed 3rd.

The ISSF World Championship in all events keeps awarding medal at the Changwon International Shooting Range in Changwon (KOR).

 

10m Running Target Women

 

Competing in her 7th World Championship, Running Target shooter Olga Stepanova of the Russian Federation finally won the title she was chasing. The 31-year-old shooter signed a 7-to-5 win in the 10m Running Target Women event, prevailing in the gold medal match against People’s Republic of China Li Xue Yan (32) — who took gold in this events at the ISSF World Championship in Munich (GER) in 2010.

 

In the bronze medal match, Ukraine’s Galina Avramenko bested Ri Ji Ye of the Democratic People’s Republic of China, signing a 6-to-3 victory thank to four consecutive shots fired in the 10th ring. Previously, the two semifinals saw Li prevail over Avramenko with the score of 9 to 7, while Stepanova beat Ri 6 to 1.

 

On the team podium, the People’s Republic of China signed a new World Record and took gol with 1673 points, followed in 2nd place by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, who scored 1672. The Russian Federation won bronze with 1668 points.

 

10m Running Target Women Junior

 

In the 10m Running Target Women Junior event — which was contest as a grand prix, as it didn’t reach the minimum number of participants — People’s Republic of China’s Cai Yanxian (14) beat Russian Federation’s 17-year-old Kseniia Anufrieva in the gold medal match, scoring five consecutive points and claiming a clear 6-to-2 win. In the second semifinal she prevailed over Armenia’s 20-year-old Gohar Vardanyan with the score of 6 to 4.

 

In the bronze medal match, the Armenian shooter surrendered to another Russian shooter — 19-year-old Anna Kostyna — who won the 3rd place with the score of 6 points to 3. Previously, Kostyna had lost 6 points to 4 against Anufrieva in the first semifinal.

 

The Russian Federation also placed 1st in the team standings with 1604 total points, followed in 2nd place by Armenia, who totalized 1594.

 

The ISSF World Championship in Changwon (KOR) will continue tomorrow with three more finals: the 50m Rifle 3 Positions Men Junior, scheduled at 12:45 pm (UTC+9:00), the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Men, taking place at 2:30 pm, and the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Men Junior, scheduled at 4:00 pm.
