New ISSF Athletes Committee elected in Changwon

The ISSF Executive Committee met  today,12 September 2018, on the occasion of the 52^nd ISSF World Championship in all events in Changwon, Republic of Korea. The primary purpose of the meeting was to receive the official vote count for the election of the members of the ISSF Athletes Committee and appoint additional members and the Athletes Committee Chairman.  

The Athletes election was conducted during the World Championship from 2 to 11 September 2018.  The election was supervised by the World Championship Jury of Appeal.  Vote counting was conducted on 11 September after the close of voting and was witnessed by the outgoing Athletes Committee Chairman, Abhinav Bindra, and Danka Bartekova, a member of the IOC Athletes Commission. The official vote count was presented in a sealed envelope to the ISSF President during the Executive Committee meeting. The President presented the election results to Committee members.

The four athletes who received the highest number of votes were automatically elected. The athletes who were elected are:

• ïKimberly Rhode, USA (Shotgun)
• ïDaniele Di Spigno, ITA (Shotgun)
• ïChristian Reitz, GER (Pistol)
• ïCassio Cesar Rippel, BRA (Rifle)

According to ISSF Regulations for the election of the Athletes Committee, the Executive Committee is required to appoint three additional members from the candidates.  The Committee made those selections based on the vote count and the need to achieve gender parity and parity among the disciplines. The three additional members of the ISSF Athletes Committee who were appointed are:

• ïOlena Kostevych, UKR (Pistol)
• ïElena Allen, GBR (Shotgun)
• ïPetar Gorsa, CRO (Rifle)

To elect a Chairman, the Executive Committee selected the athlete who received the highest number of votes from her fellow athletes. Kimberly Rhode, USA, was elected as the Chairman of the ISSF Athletes Committee. The terms of office of the new Chairman and the other members of the Athletes Committee begin immediately.

In other business, the Executive Committee, after taking into consideration IOC election guidelines, reviewed and updated ISSF election procedures and guidelines for the upcoming ISSF elections on 30 November 2018. These guidelines will be provided to all candidates for the ISSF elections and published on the ISSF website.
