British Shooting hosts 69th ISSF Academy D-Course in Doncaster

The course took place at the Park Lodge Shooting School from November 2nd to November 4th, where 15 students attended the class.

A total of fifteen coaches with a wide variety of experience across a variety of disciplines attended the 69th ISSF Academy D-Course, hosted by British Shooting at the Park Lodge Shooting School in Doncaster (GBR).

It was the second regional course hosted by the British national federation, and it went down between the 2nd and the 4th of November.

The course was led by ISSF Academy tutor Mr. Donald McIntosh of Great Britain, rifle coach for Team GB at London 2012 and Rio 2016, and father of European and World Championship medalists Seonaid and Jen McIntosh.

Christian Schofield — the British Shooting Talent Pathway Coordinator — said: “It was great to see so many enthusiastic coaches keen to develop their own skills and demonstrate the desire to inspire a new generation of shooting athletes to reach their potential.”

This sentiment was echoed by the students who suggested that the D-Course provided the essential technical shooting knowledge and insights in to some of the other skills needed to create dynamic and innovative learning environments.

Mr. McIntosh, the course tutor, thanked the participants for their enthusiasm and for sharing their knowledge, commenting: “It’s really important for coaches in the UK to have access to this level of coach education, with the focus on the standing and air rifle events, as the transition from the historical reliance on the prone event within the country continues to progress.”
