OUR WAY TO TOKYO: UPDATE

The ISSF is trying to maintain the Qualification system for Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games which was agreed in 2017.

We hope to keep all of the scheduled competitions on track so that they could take place before the Olympic Games, to ensure fairness and opportunities for all athletes to win Quota Places on the Field of Play and according to the established rules and regulations.

This is also the reason why the World Cup in New Delhi, one of the competitions to be used for the World Rankings and MQS, was postponed until May. The ISSF is fully supporting the proposal of the New Dehli Organising Committee to divide the World Cup into two separate parts: Rifle/Pistol and Shotgun competitions. The Rifle/Pistol events are planned for 5th-13th May 2020. The Shotgun competitions should take place on 20th-29th May 2020.

However, the situation with COVID-19 virus continues to be unpredictable. The current restrictions are in place and new measures are being introduced in many countries around the world. This is the reason we would like to request our Member Federations to be very careful with booking Flights and making Hotel reservations for the forthcoming events.

We would like to establish a deadline of – 15th APRIL 2020 – by which time the Organisers will have to decide whether to host the upcoming competitions or not, and the Member Federations can equally decide whether to take part in the forthcoming World Cups and Continental Championships.
