Russian coach Oleg Lapkin passed away

On August 19th, 2020, at the age of 80, three-time World champion, multiple European and USSR champion, USSR Honoured Coach Oleg Lapkin passed away.

Lapkin devoted his whole life to the Shooting. At the beginning of his sports career he was a successful athlete and for twelve years (1961 - 1973) has been a member of the USSR National team where he won at the World and European Championships, set World records in Rifle shooting.

In 1974 Oleg Lapkin started coaching. From that moment until 1992 he was the Senior Coach of the USSR National Rifle&Pistol team, and then for a year – Senior Coach of the Russian National team. Thanks to his coaching talent and hard work he was appointed as the Head Coach of the Russian National Rifle&Pistol team in 1993 and has been coaching until 2007. During his coaching career from 1976 to 2004 Oleg Lapkin prepared members of National team for eight Olympic Games.

One of his most successful students is the Olympic champion Artem Khadjibekov. They created the world famous SCATT shooting simulator.
