Azmy Mehelba and Diana Bacosi take Gold at the World Championship Shotgun

Today at the World Championship Shotgun, which takes place in Osijek, Croatia, the world champions in two Olympic events, Skeet Men and Skeet Women, were determined. 8 athletes won Quota Places, 4 in each event. 2 Quotas were won by athletes from USA, 1 quota each Italy, Great Britain, Slovakia, Ukraine, Egypt, Qatar and Sweden.

 

Rio-2016 Olympic Champion Diana Bacosi from Italy won the Skeet Women Final with Golden Hit. Her main opponent for the Gold, European champion Amber Hill from Great Britain won Silver. The Bronze was won by Samanta Simonton from USA. For the 22-year-old athlete, this medal was the first at the ISSF Seniors competitionDiana Bacosi from Italy, Samanta Simonton from USA, Vanesa Hockova from Slovakia and Iryna Malovicko from Ukraine won Quotas for their countries for Olympic Games in Paris-2024.

 

For the first time in the history of Egypt, the Gold of the World Championship was won by the Egyptian athlete Azmy Mehelba. He won with Golden Hit in the Skeet Men Final. Three-time Olympic champion Vincent Hancock from USA, who became Mehelba’s main rival in the fight for Gold, won Silver. Bronze was won by 2021 World Cup medalist Rashid Saleh Al-Athba from Qatar. All three athletes won Quotas to Paris-2024 for their countries. One more took Stefan Nilsson from Sweden who broke all 125 targets in Qualification and finished on Forth place.

 

Already 13 countries have won Quotas in Shotgun in 2 qualifiers competitions: European Championship and World Championship.
