Estonia’s Ineshin wins title in men’s skeet

Andrei Ineshin, of Estonia, won the men’s skeet World Championship today at the Luze Shooting Range in Zagreb, Croatia. Ineshin found himself in a three-way tie going into the final, with a 123 qualifying score, he then ran 25-straight to finish with a 148 and the World Championship title. This is Ineshin’s first medal in any major international event since 1998.
“It doesn’t seem like a long time,” Ineshin said of the eight-year gap between medals. “I have been training hard, and now I am back. The final was very hard and interesting, and I am just very happy to win.” Finishing in silver is Russia’s Valeriy Shomin, who had to get through a shoot-off against four other competitors just to get into the final. In the final Shomin ran all 25 and finished with a 147 and in another tie with Norway’s Tore Brovold. In the end, Shomin won the shoot-off for second place 8-7, while Brovold took the bronze. Mikola Milchev, of Ukraine and Czeck Jan Sychra also had to shoot-off to earn their positions on the leader board. Milchev ended up placing fourth, winning 8-6 against Sychra, who finished fifth. Both shot a 146 total score, while Denmark’s Jesper Hansen finished with a 145 for sixth.
