First time finalist MO of China won the Double Trap event, outdoing titled champions as Dahlby and Richmond. The Chinese shooter shot 49 targets in the final to win his first ISSF Gold medal ever.

Youngest finalist MO claimed Gold
The 21-year old Chinese shooter MO Junjie shot today’s Double Trap Gold medal at the ISSF World Cup in Shotgun events of San Marino. After dropping his first final clay, the young Chinese shooter (today’s youngest finalist) shot straight to the end, adding a final of 49 hits to his 144-target qualification, and winning Gold with a total score of 193 hits.

The Chinese shooter won a match that took place in difficult weather conditions. Morning’s qualifications had taken place under the rain, in an unusual cold morning. Rain stop right before the final, but a slight wind blowing from the left to the right side of the range came to affect the match.

China’s MO, debuting in the world cup series this year, has taken part in all of this year’s ISSF World Cup stages, but he had never made into a final round so far. His best placement had been a 16th place at the last World Cup stage in San Marino.

Silver went to Sweden’s Dahlby
The Swedish Champion Hakan DAHLBY had made it into the final round with the highest qualification score, 145 targets, finishing then in second place claiming Silver with a total score of 191 hits.

The 42-year old Swedish athlete lost his advantage on the followers by dropping two clays throughout his first three doubles. Then he slid in second by missing on his 22nd and 24th double, too close to the end of the match to recover.

“The range of San Marino it’s ok, and I am really satisfied about my qualification score of 145 hits.  – DAHLBY said after the award ceremony - I am not sure about some of the referees’ decisions. But I am always there, it’s a nice feeling to be always between the firsts… I am happy I finally made it to the podium. I hope you are going to see me on the podium more often, in future!”

USA’s Richmond back on the podium
Bronze went to the 23-year old American shooter Joshua RICHMOND, the winner of this year’s ISSF World Cup stage in Minsk, who closed the match with a total score of 190 hits.

RICHMOND had walked into the final wound with a qualification score of 142 targets, but then he dropped both the targets of his very first double, dropping in the scores.

“I don’t know what happened with that double. It kind of came out on the left, let’s say not exactly where I expected it to be.” Said RICHMOND after the final award ceremony.

“It’s great to be back on the podium, to be here with the bests.” Added RICHMOND, who had won the World Cup stage of Munich; “now I will go through some national competitions, and we’ll see us again at the World Championships next August”

Following China’s WANG Nan, 30, who place in fourth with189 hits, India’s Ronjan SODHI and UAE’s Saif ALSHAMSY shoot-off for the fifth and sixth palce.

The Indian talent Ronjan SODHI, coming from a Silver medal won at the previous ISSF World Cup stage in Minsk, Belarus, shot-off his opponents 7 to 6 hits, placing in fifth with a total score of 186 +7 targets, while ALSHAMSY finished in sixth with 186 +6 hits.
