The Champions Trophy confirmed to be a successful formula. It was fun for the athletes to take part in the competition, and for the spectators to cheer up as loud as possible, pushed by the speaker to forget of the usual silence-code. The “rule of the silence” is indeed repealed during the Trophy!
Only the World Cup Final’s medallists are invited to take part in this challenging competition. The match is conducted in standing position with an air pistol or an air rifle, mixed man and women, on the classic 10-meter distance. Four shots are fired to decide a start list, and then, shot after shot, one athlete after the other, the shooter with the lowest score goes out. When only two shooters are left on the firing line, the total is set back to zero and the match turns into a duel: three shots are fired to decide the winner of the Champions Trophy, facing the extra-challenge of an audience making as many noises as possible.
Beijing Olympic Champion Jin Jong Oh won the Pistol Champions Trophy, signing his third victory at this ISSF World Cup Final. The 30-year old Korean athlete outscored all the participants, right to the last duel with the Chinese shooter Mai Jiajie. The face-to-face duel turned in favour of Jin, who grabbed the money price sponsored by SIUS ASCOR after shooting-off Mai 10.5 to 9.7 points.
USA’s Jamie Beyerle secured the 5000 price awarded at the Rifle Champions Trophy. The American shooter shoot an incredible average of 10.4 out of the thirteen shots that led to the price, outdoing her Chinese rival Wu Liuxi at the last shot.
