The 2012 Olympic Skeet Bronze medallist Danka Bartekova became an IOC member, today, in Lausanne, where the election and swearing of the four athletes elected by their peers to the IOC Athletes’ Commission during London 2012 took place.

Danka Bartekova was elected  to the IOC Athletes’ Commission during London 2012. Today, the Slovakian athlete became an IOC member.

Bartekova was elected along with James Tomkins from Australia (rowing), Kirsty Coventry from Zimbabwe (aquatics) and Tony Estanguet from France (canoe-kayak).

Bartekova said: “Since I am still an active athlete and also an international relations student, I really wanted to work for the IOC and represent the athletes within the Olympic Movement. I am very honored to have a chance to represent them and bring my experiences from my sports career into the work of the IOC Athletes’ Commission.”

Bartekova, 28, started shooting when she wasn't even 10-year old. The Slovakian Skeet shooter from Trnava won three ISSF World Cup Stages since 2006, and became the ISSF World Cup Champion in 2012. London 2012 was the highlight of her sport career: there, she finished on the podium of the Skeet Women event, pocketing the Bronze medal with a score of 90 hits.

“I am looking forward to being a part of the IOC and sharing the Olympic values with athletes all over the world.” Bartekova added, at the end of the ceremony.

The new members will join their counterparts at the Session on Thursday for the presentations of the three Candidate Cities for the third Summer Youth Olympic Games in 2018 – Buenos Aires (Argentina), Glasgow (Great Britain) and Medellin (Colombia) – and the election of the 2018 YOG host city.
