The Shooting Sport family mourns the loss of ISSF Honorary Member, Dipl.-Ing. Friedrich (Fritz) Schattleitner, who passed away in early May 2016 after a long illness.
Fritz Schattleitner began his career in the sport of shooting as a rifle athlete who represented his nation Austria in the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico. He subsequently participated as an Official in nine Olympic Games, most recently in Beijing 2008.
Fritz Schattleitner served the ISSF for more than 30 years. His service began in 1980 when he was elected as a member of the ISSF Rifle Committee. In 1982, he was elected as a member of the ISSF Technical Committee where he served until 2010. The ISSF General Assembly elected him to be an Auditor in 1980 and he continued in that position until 2010.
For many years, Mr. Schattleitner also represented the European Shooting Confederation as its Nominee in the ISSF Administrative Council. Fritz was highly regarded as a technical expert on shooting rules and competition organization and he fulfilled ISSF Technical Delegate assignments at many ISSF Championships.
Many honors were bestowed on Fritz in recognition of his exceptional service to the sport of shooting. In 1984, he was awarded the ISSF’s highest award for distinguished service, the Blue Cross. In 2010, the ISSF General Assembly honored Fritz Schattleitner with “the Federation’s highest award” when it elected him as an ISSF Honorary Member.
Mr. Schattleitner devoted much of his life to the shooting sport and he unselfishly applied his knowledge and dedication to making shooting a better sport. With his passing, the ISSF has lost one of its longest serving and most active leaders.
The ISSF extends its sincere condolences to his wife and son as well as to Fritz’s many shooting friends in Austria and around the world. We will never forget our good friend Fritz Schattleitner.
