The International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) is celebrating its 117th anniversary today (July 17).
“With just a week to go until shooting sport competition begins at the Paris 2024 Olympics our Federation is celebrating its 117th birthday and looking forward with confidence to a new era,” said ISSF President Luciano Rossi.
“We are already changing and developing our sport in all areas.
“Among the innovations is the renewal of the ISSF Development Fund and the strengthening of links with all our member federations with a strong emphasis on sustainability and equal gender.
“In the same spirit of renewal we have re-established the ISSF Academy to create the coaches and managers who will vouchsafe the sport’s future.
“The ISSF House at shooting sport’s site in Chateauroux during the Paris 2024 Games will be a manifestation of this work of transformation.
“Enjoy the Games!”
The ISSF was formally established on July 17, 1907.
Representatives of seven national shooting federations, six from Europe (Austria, Belgium, France, Greece, Italy, Holland) and one from South America (Argentina), met in in Zurich to formally establish the L’Union Internationale des Fédérations et Associations nationals de Tir (International Union of National Shooting Federations and Associations).
This meeting has been regarded historically as the first ISSF General Assembly.
The President of L’Union des Sociétés de Tir de France, Daniel Mérillon, a 55-year old lawyer from Paris, was elected as the first President of the international federation.
