The Olympic sport shooting competition came to an end yesterday, and ISSF House made sure that it was literally with a bang.
The night sky around Chateauroux was lit up by a firework display which conveyed all the colour, sound and beauty of the previous 10 days of action.
Inside the House, it was priority on the athletes as the guests welcomed the stars of the final events of the competition. With a clear hold on the top two positions of the Shooting sport medal table, it was appropriate that China and Korea could celebrate their athletes again, but a final gold medal from the Italian Mixed Skeet team meant that Europe could join the party as well thanks to Diana Bacosi and Gabriele Rossetti. Jiang Yiting and Lyu Jianlin joined them on stage as bronze medallists.
Korea has had an amazing Olympic Games in shooting sport, exceeding their targets for medals, and ISSF House warmly welcomed Cho Yeongjae, who had earlier won silver in the Men 25m Rapid Fire Pistol event.
ISSF President Luciano Rossi brought 10 days of intense activity to a close by thanking all those who had made the Olympics such a great success, starting with the athletes, coaches, federation officials and technical personnel, but he also singled out the ISSF Staff and all those involved in the operations at ISSF House. Without doubt, it became the home of shooting sport in Chateauroux, offering friendship and entertainment and allowing our wonderful athletes to get the recognition they truly deserved.
