President Luciano Rossi made maximum use of the opportunity of the General Assembly of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) to reiterate the desire of ISSF to be part of the sport programme of the Youth Olympic Games.

Shooting sport was on the sport programme of the original Youth Olympic Games in Singapore in 2010 but following a decision of the IOC Executive Board in 2018, shooting became part of the "Engagement Programme" together with several other sports.

Following the status report made by the organising committee of the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, during the ASOIF session today, ISSF President Luciano Rossi took the floor to propose further discussion on the proposed sport programme.

Speaking to ISSF news, President Rossi said: "It is important to stress that, following my election as President at the end of 2022, I have held several meetings with the LOC in Dakar together with my Secretary General and stressed not only our strong desire to return to the sport programme but that this could be achieved without adding excessive cost or logistic difficulty.

"We have had several open and constructive discussions, and our colleagues in Dakar are certainly open to discuss a practical proposal to make to the IOC.

"Based on our following its strong performance in digital and TV ratings at the Paris Olympics Games, where it climbed 5 places in the rankings compared to other sports, I am determined to work constructively with the Dakar organisers and the IOC to find solutions which can benefit ISSF and the Olympic Movement."
