The future of Summer Olympic governing bodies was discussed at the latest Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) General Assembly in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The International Shooting Sport Federation was represented at the event by President Luciano Rossi and Secretary General Alessandro Nicotra di San Giacomo.
It was the perfect occasion for the President and Secretary General to open dialogue with the Organising Committee of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games, to secure ISSF events on the Sports Programme. The team remains confident of shooting sport's inclusion from discussions so far.
There, they learned about the Sixth Review of IF Governance, which will start later this year, led by the ASOIF's Governance Task Force, with the ISSF determined to improve its ranking following several reforms this year. Reports were also provided by the Organising Committees of the Los Angeles 2028 and Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games and the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games. Shooting sport's own Niccolo Campriani, Vice-President of Sports for LA28, was among those presenting at the event.
Nenad Lalovic, President of United World Wrestling, Jean-Christophe Rolland, President of World Rowing and Andreas Zagklis, Secretary General of the International Basketball Federation; were all elected as ASOIF Council members on four-year terms.
International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach and IOC President-Elect Kirsty Coventry both addressed ASOIF members. Mr Bach thanking International Federations for their contributions in making the Olympic Games more modern and sustainable, while Ms Coventry called for IFs to work together to deliver the best Olympic Games for the athletes and future generations.
